The Crisis - The Genocide in Darfur, Sudan

The crisis in Darfur is on the level of a genocidal event. Over 400,000 people have been killed and there are 2.5 million people (mostly women and children) in refugee camps.

The Janjaweed troops are on a mission to eradicate a whole group of people in the north western country of Sudan called Darfur. When these men ride into a village, they take the older boys and men and kill them immediately. They then take the women and girls down to seven or eight years old and rape and mutilate them. The women are put into corrals to be used by the troops whenever they want. They then burn down the village to erase it from the earth.

The women and children who escape travel hundreds of miles on foot and in crowded trucks to over crowded refugee camps. There families live in tiny huts made from whatever scraps they can find. When the women leave the camp for firewood they are attacked and raped again.

The situation is critical and getting worse. The world can not stand idly by, we cannot stand idly by. We must act to bring relief and help to these people in desperate need.
